Together, Kenya, Egypt, South Africa, and Nigeria have attracted 87% of the total investments destined for African startups, setting a record since 2019. Equally important, the \u201cBig Four\u201d also accounted for 71% of startups successfully raising $100,000 or more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-3bd40dca6368feb7b40b638de9c2183c\">Kenya, with a substantial share of 28% of the total investments destined for African startups, dominates the continent in terms of startup financing securing nearly $800 million in funding in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-455ab1e0eab7e89738faf448c85520a3\">These figures not only underscore Kenya&#8217;s prominent position in the African startup landscape but also the success of policies aimed at creating a business friendly ecosystem and attracting foreign investment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-dd8174a7e5b1bae7d02cc1a22b7acc7c\">In November, Kenya\u2019s President William Ruto announced that the startup bill 2022, which <a href=\"https:\/\/techcabal.com\/2023\/11\/28\/startup-bill-2022-kenya\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cseeks to provide employment opportunities for Kenyan youth and tax breaks for startups, will be signed into law by April 2024.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/medperspective.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/President-Ruto-signing-the-Finance-Bill-2023-1536x1023-1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"President Ruto to sign bill that will give tax break to Kenyan startups. In this undertaking, Nigeria has placed high hopes on information communication technologies (ICT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-4e40853ccac37790831b898bf66abf51\">Data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and discussed by the Official Website of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trade.gov\/country-commercial-guides\/nigeria-information-and-communications-technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the U.S. International Trade Administration<\/a> indicate that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trade.gov\/country-commercial-guides\/nigeria-information-and-communications-technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cthe ICT sector contributed 9.88% to the total nominal GDP in Q4 of 2021,\u201d<\/a> which though \u201clower than the rate of 10.58 per cent recorded in the same quarter of 2020,\u201d still bears witness to Nigeria\u2019s leading role in ICT in the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-43c858752158120ee480762aafda7761\">Despite its relentless efforts at leading a startup revolution, Morocco is still lagging behind the &#8220;Big four&#8221; despite the $17 million raised in 2023.
